Many of TEMPLE rugs designs have a direct lineage back to a drawing, sculpture or photograph that I have made. One series of works involves heavy wire mesh framing and coarse plaster strips, shaped, sanded and painted (or not). The TWO TABS on this rug are from an edge of one such vessel. I included silk on a large portion of the pattern to provide some luminescence where none exists in the original plaster. The two pile heights add to the textural quality and sculptural forms of the design.
