Tobias Wong’s interests were in contrast; something/nothing, function/form, art as monumental/incidental. Producing work more often for high design showrooms than art galleries, Wong has received a glut of editorial praise in glossy design magazines that highlight the beauty of his objects, the cleverness of his actions, and Wong as an enfant terrible. He was the first to note that his work “continually questions the notion of authorship, the role of the artist and the value of art”. Much of Tobi’s work can be seen fundamentally as conceptual art; art as idea, where what we view is the vehicle for an idea.
Twentieth is proud to have loaned various works to both SFMOMA and the Museum of Vancouver for their Tobias Wong exhibitions.
