Biography

Scott Daniel Strickstein is a Brooklyn-based artist best known for his innovative ceramic-coated metal mesh, which can be sculpted and draped. His studio, Scott Daniel Design, offers contemporary lighting and furniture celebrated for its highly textural surfaces.

Scott spent much of his youth in Detroit, studying blueprints during visits to construction sites with his father and watching his mother design and create clothing for the apparel industry. While attending Cranbrook High School, he took an elective in ceramics and was immediately captivated by working with a material that responded to touch. After earning a B.A. in political theory at Michigan State University, he returned to art, receiving his B.F.A. from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.

Scott Daniel Design launched in NYC in 2010. Inspired by the concept of alchemy, his signature technique balances the inherent imperfections of organic elements with the precision of machined components, all while maintaining an intimate, hands-on approach.
